Ambassadors

Our Ambassadors are volunteers who have pledged to undertake outreach work in their locality, advising meadow owners and managers. They have been through a 2-3 year training programme with us, to help them understand our survey and research methods, so they can apply a scientific approach to assessing management of existing floodplain meadows, and help in the restoration of meadows. After their training has been completed, we continue to offer ongoing support and training to maintain their skills and share with them latest research. We now have 47 Ambassadors, spread across the country, each allocated to a county that contains floodplain meadows. You can use the map to find out whether there is an FMP Ambassador near you, who you can approach for advice.

Biography

I have a lifelong interest in natural history and conservation, specialising in wetland and aquatic habitats. I currently manage the monitoring and research work for the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants - that involves coordinating surveys and reporting for over 100 nature reserves. We are continuing to develop monitoring for wetland sites and floodplain meadows - and the ambassador role has helped me to gain the skills to achieve this. We are involved with several floodplain meadow restoration studies and take every opportunity to promote this work and raise the profile of these rare habitats.

Biography

I am the Protected Sites Senior Adviser for Natural England's 'West Anglia' area (Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex). In this role I oversee the Protected Sites monitoring and delivery programme and support SSSI Advisers in their role. The 2 year Ambassador programme (2015/16) helped me build confidence on floodplain meadows and their ecological processes. This type of habitat occurs across our area and the training I received is invaluable, allowing me to give informed advice to colleagues and landowners
